Every client at the Warwickshire Wart Removal Clinic will their tags clinically assessed by one of our nursing clinicians. Almost all tags are suitable for removal. Once assessed, our nurse will start treatment. Involving the application of nitrous oxide to the treatment area using a pen-like precision tool, cryotherapy removes the tag by freezing the stalk. Also known as N20, nitrous oxide is very cold; freezing the stalk of the skin tag stops blood flow to the skin tag, killing it.

The pen does not penetrate the skin during treatment, you may feel the tool during application and it can feel like the tip of a ballpoint pen touching your skin. During application, your nurse may apply the device more than once in the same treatment. This can be to treat a skin tag of a particular size. Most tags can be treated effectively in one treatment, but larger tags might require further treatment.

Following the procedure, you might experience a tingling feeling in the treatment area. While not painful, you can feel a stinging sensation in the treatment area for the rest of the day.

Post-cryotherapy, you may notice the skin tag changes colour, getting darker. You can also find that your skin tag is drying out, feeling crusty. A good sign to show the tag is dying, the tag will simply fall off after a few days. You might see a small mark where the tag has fallen off. This will vanish over time. When healed, you can return to your normal skin care routine.

Some people are more prone to skin tags than others, however it is not clear why this might be the case. You may opt to have more than one skin tag removed at a time. Skin tags may sometimes look like warts; however, they are neither contagious and they will not grow back once removed.

Our preferred option – and the most convenient for our clients – is to have skin tags removed via freezing. This process is known as cryotherapy. Skin tags can also be removed by cutting them off or burning them off, however at our clinic, we prefer to use cryotherapy.
