Before your treatment, our nurse-led team at the Leicestershire Wart Removal Clinic will clinically assess your tag or tags. Most tags are suitable to be removed. Following assessment, our nurse will use a precision tool, that looks like a pen, to apply nitrous oxide to the treatment area. Nitrous oxide is also known as N20 and is very cold. It freezes the stalk of the skin tag, which stops blood flow to the skin tag and effectively kills it.

While the tip of the pen does not penetrate the skin’s surface, its application might feel like the nib of a ballpoint pen is touching your skin. Following the first application, your nurse may decide to apply the device again in the session. This can depend on the size of the skin tag. While most tags can effectively be treated within one session, particularly large skin tags can need further treatment in a second session.

Following the skin tag removal procedure, you might feel slight tingling sensation in the treatment area. While not painful, you may experience a very mild stinging for the rest of the treatment day.

After cryotherapy, your skin tag will change colour, darkening in the days after treatment. The tag might feel as if it is becoming crusty and drying out. This shows that skin tag is dying and that it will fall off within a few days. Once it has fallen off, you might notice that there is a small red mark where the tag was attached. This will vanish in time. Once fully healed, you can return to your normal skin care routine.
