Wart Removal Flintshire

Clients who come to the Flintshire Wart Removal Clinic to have their skin tags removed will have their tags assessed clinically by one of our nurses. Almost every tag is suitable for removal. Once assessment is complete, the nurse applies nitrous oxide to the tag’s stalk, using a pen-like tool that allows for precision treatment. Also known as N20, nitrous oxide, is very cold -freezing cold. Freezing the stalk of the skin tag stops blood flow to the skin tag and so killing it.

While the tip of the tool will not penetrate the skin, it will touch the skin’s surface. The feeling is like the sensation of being touched by the tip of a ballpoint pen. When using the pen to apply the nitrous oxide, the nurse may need to use the device for more than one application to the stalk of the skin tag. This can depend on the size of the skin tag. Usually, tags can be treated within one session. However, large skin tags may require a second session of treatment.

After the nitrous oxide treatment, you may feel a gentle tingling sensation in the area, although the treatment is not painful. For the remainder of the day of the treatment, you might feel a mild stinging sensation.

Following cryotherapy, the skin tag or tags will change in colour and grow darker in the days after treatment. Your skin tag might feel drier and a little crusty. This means the treatment has worked and the tag is dying. A few days later, the tag will fall off altogether. You might see a tiny mark where the skin tag has fallen off, but this will disappear over time. When healed, you will be able to follow your normal skin care routine once again.

Some people are more prone to skin tags than others, however it is not clear why this might be the case. You may opt to have more than one skin tag removed at a time. Skin tags may sometimes look like warts; however, they are neither contagious and they will not grow back once removed.

Our preferred option – and the most convenient for our clients – is to have skin tags removed via freezing. This process is known as cryotherapy. Skin tags can also be removed by cutting them off or burning them off, however at our clinic, we prefer to use cryotherapy.
